About using America Online

AOL uses their own proprietary browser combination. This prevents the use of certain new and cutting edge "plug ins" that you normaly add to your browsers plug in folder, unless specifically engineered to work with AOL. The best solution is to use a seperate browser such as "Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator". These will give you more browsing freedom.
If you happen to have your own ISP, then you do not need to sign on to AOL. Just dial up your ISP as you normally would; start your favorite browser and surf away. You can still turn AOL on in addition. At that point you will be running AOL and a seperate web browser. Simply use AOL for AOL and your browser for all internet stuff.

AOL tech support tells us that if you dial in to AOL for your internet service that you can still use a seperate browser.

An example of running seperate browser as it appears in the Macintosh OS appears below.
Notice that AOL is running plus Internet Explorer.

If you still need to use the AOL browser then see the folowing instructions specific to your operating system. Macintosh or Windows
